The Château de la Sarraz has collections of furniture and paintings among the most beautiful in Switzerland. Gathered with talent over the history of the barony of La Sarraz, these collections are eminently representative of the heritage of the Gingins family which counted among the most important in the Vaud aristocracy. This family died out for lack of descendant during the 1930s of the past century by leaving a practically intact heritage.
A story and collections
Nearly a thousand years of history have shaped the Château de la Sarraz since its construction in 1049 by the Maison de Grandson. Located in the center of remarkable sites such as the former Clunisian abbey of Romainmôtier or the Roman mosaics of Orbe, the castle is ideally placed for its promotion of sweet tourism. Like the Saint-Pierre cathedral in Geneva and the former Hospice du Saint-Gothard in Airolo, the Château de la Sarraz is one of the three Swiss sites having obtained the European Heritage Label because of its important value historical, artistic and cultural in European history.
