Table-Ronde on Frontex & Projection of non-assistance of Frederic Choffat, University of Geneva, MR040, Wednesday May 11, 2022, 6.15 p.m. several tens of thousands of migrants have been drowned in the Mediterranean Sea over the past twenty years. On the basis of a scenario co-written with Caroline Abu Sa'da of Médecins Sans Frontières, the non-assistance documentary of Swiss director Frédéric Choffat, produced by Akka Films and broadcast as a world premiere, lights up the drama by contextualizing the essential data of the problem. He soberly and intelligently put in the spotlight of citizens decided to compensate for the resignation of European governments, in particular since the abandonment by Italy in 2013 of the Mare Nostrum rescue operation. The calls from the Immigrant Information and Support Group (GISTI) have served as an impetus for a movement of researchers and committed citizens. The latter are working to expose the responsibility of the great actors of the Mediterranean maritime space such as NATO, Frontex and certain commercial freight ships.

The projection will be followed by a debate on the vote on the increase in the financial contribution of Switzerland to the Frontex border and coast guard agency.

The film will be followed by a round table during which the challenges of the vote on May 15 on the increase in the federal subsidy at the Frontex agency of Coast Guard and Border Guard will be discussed in particular. ¨
